THE GENTLE GARDENER

A day or two ago, a close friend referred to me as a Gentle Gardener. Immediately, I decided to own this generous vision of myself without reserve. In truth, I have been ‘gardening’ for years: cultivating beauty, constant beauty - my inner, ever-growing Garden of Eden.

In this garden, I have planted gratitude, I have planted love, I have planted beauty, I have planted poetry + music, celebration. In this garden, you will find each precious heart I’ve ever loved.

Every day, I tend to this garden. Every moment of every day, I shower my field of treasures with affection, wonder, awe. I allow myself to be amazed by all that grows there; I revisit every member, as if for the very first time.

Even when it’s gloomy in my heart, I walk this garden to relax my weary frame into its view.

Every day, I greedily inhale the scent of Gratitude; I sit beneath the branches of Great Love. I press my cautious fingers to the brilliance of Beauty + I marvel at the notes that fill the air.

Most of all, perhaps, I love communing with the thrill of human hearts, like golden sprites. They dance around my fingers + my face + kiss my hair.

Laughing, I relax into the love that we have shared - a love not lost, discarded, or forgotten - a love that’s only ripened in my heart.

This love is the Life that pulses ever at the center of my Garden.

This love is the same love that holds you.

Can you feel it?

P.S. -
This piece is for everyone who reads it. Thank you for your presence in my Garden. Every day is brighter with you here.
