A NOTE TO MYSELF ON THE TOPIC OF TEN-YEAR PLANS

APRIL 23, 2013

the point is: we’re too careful. too cautious. too quick to make plans.
we hold our tongues. we make promises. we trust tomorrow to come.

we sleep. we sleep in sleep. we sleep in waking.
we stifle passions. we calculate risk. we weigh decisions.

the point is: we’re fools. tomorrow never comes. today will end.
action dissolves the weight of decisions. passion is the voice of god.

fear is the father of courage. risk is the way.
fear is the father of courage. risk is the only way.

if you are afraid, run.
not from it.
toward it.

if you are afraid, run.
not from it.
into it.

make mistakes. stumble. fall. bite the dust. eat crow. shake it off.
make mistakes. stumble. fall. bite the dust. eat crow. shake it off.

we get one chance at this. one.
go the way you would if all conditions were favorable.
go that way even when they’re not.

stop waiting. stop hiding. stop making excuses.
stop reasoning. stop dreaming. stop hoping.

stop making excuses.
stop making excuses.
stop making excuses.

if you are afraid, run. you know which direction.
but do it now. not later. now.
move. act. write a story worth telling.

the point is: you don’t have to sleep through this.
